Best Cydia Tweaks for Screen Recording on Jailbroken iOS 9 and 10

iOS screen recording has been a popular request by our readers and the overall iPhone users. More and more people come to this post when a new jailbreak is dropped.

I recently got back into making YouTube videos, specifically reviewing Cydia tweaks and post them on Flexihackify, our official channel. Of course, the most convenience way to do so is if I record my own screen showing viewers how each package and themes works.

Why Screen Recording Tweaks Are Popular?

  1. Apple does not allow screen recording apps in their App Store
  2. There are tons of tweaks to record the screen of your iOS device

As a result, when users get a chance to jailbreak their iPhone or iPad, it’s like a must to find a working screen recording tweak.

In this article, I’m not just going to review one but several tweaks that let you record your iOS screen. Further, there will be one at the end that doesn’t require a jailbreak. Please do keep in mind that these jailbreak tweaks are not entirely supportive yet, and I’ll tell you each incompatibility features under each review.

1. Display Recorder for iOS 9

This has got to be one of the most well-known Cydia tweaks when it comes to recording the screen of your iPhone or iPad. Developed by developer Ryan Petrich, Display Recorder is packed with all kind of impressive features such as recording in high definition, different rotations, frame-rates, video formats, web server, and quick gestures powered by Activator.

iOS 9 users can purchase and install Display Recorder from Cydia’s BigBoss repo. This tweak has been marked as compatible with Apple’s latest firmware, and that’s true. However, your recordings will not be saved to the stock Photos.app. This is the problem I have while using Display Recorder; it will display as:

Save Failed!

Unable to save video to camera roll.

I’m sure Petrich will be updating this tweak soon and it will fully support iOS 9.

Update #1: Display Recorder 1.3.19 released

  • Fix camera roll permissions error on iOS 9
  • Fix iFile integration on iOS 9
  • Fix tapper settings not applying immediately in some cases
  • Fix landscape recording resulting in cropped videos on iPad
  • Allow assigning an Activator action to launch the Display Recorder app

2. AirShou

We actually did a review on Shou a few months ago, you can check out the full post here. I’m just going to talk about its compatibility with iOS 9. This tweak was created by Shou.tv, a streaming service for gamers and broadcasters. In addition to providing a place for users to upload their gaming records, Shou.tv also make it easier for iPhone and iPad users to record their iOS screen by releasing Shou.

This app can be downloaded on both Jailbroken and Non-Jailbroken devices. Recently, it was updated for iOS 9 but my iPhone 6 Plus kept on restarting whenever I try to tap the Record button.

3. iRec

irec-ios-9

iRec is a popular application to record iOS 7 – 8 screen developed by Emu4iOS Team. I gave it a test on iOS 9 and the recording seems to work fine although the constant crash every time the Recording button is being tapped will scare some of you.

Just like Display Recorder, iRec isn’t fully compatible with iOS 9 yet. Users can record their screen but won’t be able to play or save the video to their Camera Roll.

Update #2: It seems like the guy from iNoCydia was able to get this app to work on iOS 9.2 and it’s now called iRec 2.0 app. Watch the YouTube video below for more info.

4. Vidyo!

Surprisingly, App Store review team has approved a brand new screen recorder application on their marketplace, and this app has finally landed with the price tag of $4.99.

Before you get turned off by that, let me tell you a bit about Vidyo and its features. Usually, any app recorders that get submitted to the App Store with no doubt be rejected by Apple. However, Vidyo is that one unique app that makes it in and provides what we all have to get from third-party websites, like ones mentioned above.

With Vidyo, users can do the following:

  • Capture your device screen no matter which app you are in with the audio being played on the device
  • Import existence video from Camera Roll to the recording
  • Add commentary audio to existence videos
  • Trim feature is included
  • And much more

Like I said earlier, this application comes with a lot of premium features, and it’s now the only one that is available on the App Store. Of course, you will have to pay $4.99 to download Vidyo! for your iPhone or iPad.

Update #3: The app is now available for sideloading through Cydia Impactor, which requires no jailbreak at all.

5. CCRecord

CCRecord is a recently released tweak for iOS 10 that brings screen recording to this latest Apple firmware. The cool thing is that it’s very easy to initiate the recording because it will be added right to your Control Center.

When you want to stop recording your screen, swipe up from the bottom and tap on the same icon again. CCRecord is downloadable from the BigBoss repo.
