How to Downgrade Back to the Old WhatsApp Status on iPhone

Since the most recent WhatsApp update which includes a new feature called Status, the WhatsApp subreddit has been filled with complaints and negative comments from users.

Unlike the traditional text-based status that most people are used to, the new WhatsApp Status feature has been enhanced to compete with Snapchat Stories.

When your WhatsApp has this feature, it will allow you to post your current status via images and photos. Media files being shared through WhatsApp Status will expire after its 24 hours period. As we mentioned, this feature is being rolled out to almost everyone already and currently a lot of people do not like it.

How do you know if WhatsApp Status has been enabled?

It’s very simple. When the Status feature is live on your WhatsApp application, it should replace the Contacts menu on the bottom menu. I think this is another reason why many users hate the new feature because it replaces one of their favorite shortcut, Contacts.

If you’re like me and a handful of others who doesn’t found the new WhatsApp Status to be useful, there is a way to remove it on your iPhone and put things back into where they were.

How to Disable the Status feature in WhatsApp

  1. Launch Cydia
  2. Go to Sources > Edit > Add
  3. Enter the following repo URL:
  4. Install a tweak called No Statuses

This tweak will perform several actions to your WhatsApp app. First of all, it will remove the new WhatsApp Status feature. Then, No Statuses will re-enable the Contacts menu at the bottom of the screen.

Give this jailbreak tweak a try and let us know how it works out for you. If you want to get rid of more annoying features on WhatsApp, check out this post.
