How to Fix Audible Books Not Syncing to Apple Watch

Are you looking forward to listening to audiobooks on your Apple Watch, but disappointed that the Audible app isn’t syncing properly?

If the content from the Audible.com app is not downloading or syncing to your Apple Watch, follow the steps below to fix the issue.

Solution #1: Reset Your Apple Watch

If you’re having trouble syncing your Audible content to your Apple Watch, a simple reset may do the trick.

To reset your Apple Watch:

  1. Press and hold both the crown and side buttons on your watch until the Apple logo appears.
  2. Release both buttons and wait for the watch to restart.

Once your Apple Watch has restarted, try syncing your Audible content again and see if it works. If not, move on to the next solution.

Solution #2: Enable Audible Syncing

If you haven’t already, make sure to enable Audible syncing on your Apple Watch.

  1. Tap to open the Audible app on your iPhone.
  2. Select the 3-dots to open the menu on a downloaded title.
  3. Tap “Sync to Apple Watch.”

Solution #3: Re-Install the Audible app

If neither of the previous solutions works, try uninstalling and re-installing the Audible app on your iPhone.

Once you’ve re-installed the app, follow the steps in Solution #2 to enable syncing of Audible content.

Solution #4: Check Your Apple Watch Storage Space

Some books from the Audible app may be too large to sync to your Apple Watch. Therefore, you may not see it appear as there isn’t enough space to hold the audio content.

To check the storage space available on your watch:

  1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. My Watch > General > About.
  3. Look for the total capacity and how much space is available on the watch.

If you don’t have enough space, try deleting some apps or media files from your watch to free up space.

  1. I wanted to provide an update regarding the Audible.com Watch app. I was able to download two titles into my AW Series 4. I started small with “Last Breath”, a 4-hour book and followed it with the 13+ hour book “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”. Both are in my AW4 library. See photos. Time will tell if the audio books downloaded fully for my listening pleasure. I’m so excited! The ability to listen to the latest titles was very important to me. Have a good day, Friends!

  2. Looking at forums, this seems to be a common problem, but has anyone actually solved the problem of syncing Audible books to Apple watch? I’ve tried every ‘fix’ found online – versions up to date, docked, fully charged, rebooted, reinstalled, Wi-Fi not Bluetooth, same Wi-Fi network and bandwidth, cleared some space etc. – but it’s totally random whether a book will sync or not. Some go fine, most don’t go at all, or go partially then stop. Error messages range from ‘watch not connected’ (not true) to ‘app not installed on watch’ (not true), but most often a more generic ‘sync failed’ message within seconds of attempting to start the sync. Very frustrating. Biggest (actually the only) issue I’ve had with the watch.

    • Getting any streaming to work with the iWatch (Audible, Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify) seems to be an exercise in futility. All I want to do is listen to a book or podcast and walk my dog and leave my phone behind. Pretty frustrating.

  3. Podcasts and Audio books really are the most frustrating aspects of the Apple Watch, I want to go for a run and listen to an audiobook and I can’t because it won’t sync, and as for podcasts……..the watch just downloads all sorts of already played episodes no matter what settings I choose, Apple don’t care either and I never find a real solution that works.

  4. What worked for me at the end was that:
    1. Hard sign out from Audible app. Yes it’s a thing. Go to Profile > Cogwheel icon > Scroll Down to the bottom > Press the text area (where the app’s version, email, etc…) for ~10 seconds, and sign out.
    2. Turn both watch and iPhone off and on
    3. Hard kill Audible app on watch
    4. Sign back in to Audible on iPhone
    5. Go to Library and try to sync the audiobook to watch again.

    • Thank you so much for posting this . It worked for me after hours of trying all sorts of other things. The only part that was new was the hard sign out of audible ! I had deleted it on phone and watch on previous attempts but the hard sign out seems to have been the key .
      Thank you thank you
