How to Fix Super Mario Run Crashing on iPhone and iPad

Super Mario Run is now available for download from your App Store. I did what most people probably have done and paid for the game. Before its release, they announced that Super Mario Run would require a constant internet connection in order to work fully. This doesn’t seem like a problem to me.

However, after downloading the game onto my iOS device, it crashes right upon launching. I understand why this is happening. It’s because I have a jailbroken device, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to pirate the game.

If you’re currently experiencing a crashing issue with your Super Mario Run on an iPhone or iPad, this tutorial will show you how to fix it.

How to Bypass Super Mario Run Jailbreak Detection

  1. Launch Cydia and reload sources
  2. Add the following repository: http://xcon.crazy.net/
  3. Install xCon and Resping

After your iOS device boot up, you should be able to open the game without any trouble.

If the above method doesn’t work, there is another tweak that allows you to bypass jailbreak detection in most apps. Note that this isn’t the first time that has happened to jailbroken users.

You can recall the Pokemon Go incident, PayPal also enforces this, and now Super Mario Run.

Fix using tsProtector

  1. Go on Cydia and install tsProtector tweak
  2. Enable the package
  3. Blacklist Super Mario Run app from there

This should be able to let you play Super Mario Run on your jailbroken iPhone or iPad.

RunMario

RunMario is a new jailbreak tweak designed specifically for Super Mario Run. Unlike tsProtector, this tweak will only let you remove jailbreak detection in this game. No other games or applications will be compatible. If you don’t have any similar issues with other apps, then RunMario would be an ideal package.

The tweak is now available for download from the BigBoss repo.

Still have this problem even if you didn’t jailbreak?

Sometimes, this is actually possible. If you didn’t jailbreak your iOS device and Super Mario Run still crashes or show some weird issues, here are a few tips to handle that.

  • Restart your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad
  • Delete the app and re-install it from the App Store
  • Turn on AirPlane Mode for a few mins and turn it off

Let me know if that works for you.

  1. I don’t have jailbreak yet it still crashes. I tried your method for this problem but it didn’t work for me. Also, I recall that I tried to do a jailbreak once before (on a different iOS update) but it failed. Could this be causing my problem?

  2. I have the same problem. My device used to be jail broken, but I removed it a while back. I really want to pay for the game, but it won’t even show the title screen. Help me! Running latest version of iOS, iPhone 5s, tried doing everything you said to do. Not a fan of restoring.

  3. I tried everything you suggested but it still crashes. Could it be because I once had jailbreak but just updated my phone to ios 10 to get rid of it?

  4. Nintendo’s stupid jailbreak detection doesn’t seem to notice that I haven’t run a jailbreak since iOS 8. So now I have to JB my device to get a hack to bypass the JB detection? Pokemon GO was smart enough to know I’m not currently using a JB, but the gall of taking people’s money and then refusing to let the app open!?! Nintendo is so incredibly backwards, they are only stopping legit iOS people that gave up their jailbreak.

  5. The game crashes every time I try to open it. My phone was jailbroken back on iOS 9 point something, but that was long ago and it is no longer jailbroken. Sadly, none of your methods have worked. Any other ideas?

  6. Ok, so I had jail broken my IPhone 6 before back in iOS 8, however, I uninstalled Cydia, and went clean on my device with no jailbreak on it ever since. I am experiencing the launching crash issue. Do you think it is because I had jail broken my phone prior to this app? Even though I uninstalled Cydia and got rid of the jailbreak?
By the way I am currently running iOS 10.0.1

  7. The first message did not work for me but the second method did. I am on an iPhone 6 9.3.2 jailbroken. I had to go in and uninstall all the first things posted from Cydia, Respring, uninstall the app Respring and then install the other app Respring again. Then I went in and blacklisted, first couple times didn’t work had to play with the settings and keep respringing it. But the last one didn’t work so those having difficulty keep trying. Another thing I did was turned off all the background apps. Thanks for the post.

    • Sorry voice to text meant to say the last method did work, and I probably could’ve gotten the first to work and I done the same thing. I did have to remove it from blacklist wants uninstall it and then redo it all. It did take like five tries for each

  8. The App Store on my iPhone 7 still tells me the game is coming and asks if I want to be notified when it is available. I know many people do have it.

  9. The only thing that’s. working is (when you had a jailbroken your device) is totally erase everything on your device/reinstall/clean Install, or factory reset iOS device. This really should help.
Then recover the device and everything is working 😉

    • A complete restore is the very last thing I want to do it’s an absolute pain and for 1 game it’s not worth. Yay Nintendo for blocking tons of legit players.

My real question is how to use tsprotextor. It seems pretty straight forward install select 1 app to blacklist “Pokemon go” and play . Yeah there’s a respring or 2 I think I did as well. What am I doing wrong I haven’t played since October it’s no fun logging around a big iPad pro around.

  11. Doesn’t work on my iPad Air 2, but does work on IPhone 6 both running iOS 10 obviously, neither are jail broken. Tried pretend / surface jailbreak on iPad which was useless so removed so that may have something to do with it?!
