Untrusted Enterprise Developer Error on iPhone? Here’s a Fix

Many iOS users often see the popup that says, “Untrusted Enterprise Developer” when trying to install apps outside of the App Store. These are the applications that were not allowed by Apple due to their term and conditions. But in most cases, they do no harm to our iPhone and iPad.

If you’re new to the whole emulators and third-party apps thing, this would be the first or second error you see. But that’s fine because there is an easy way to fix the untrusted developer popup.

Why does this error appear in the first place?

Like I mentioned earlier, the popup only displays for apps or emulators that have been installed from Safari or sideloaded via Cydia Impactor. Since regular users are the one who installed them, they’re responsible for the apps they downloaded to their device. As a result, Apple added the warning to iPhone and iPad running iOS 9 and higher.

You will see the complete notice below.

Untrusted Enterprise Developer” along with iPhone Distribution….has not been trusted on this iPhone. Until this developer has been trusted, their enterprise apps will not be able to use.

The fix to this issue is relatively simple. If you believe the app you installed will not inject or do any harm to your iOS device, then you can tell the system to trust it.

How to Fix Untrusted Enterprise Developer in iOS

After downloading the app, don’t open it yet. Follow the instructions below first.

  1. Go to Settings > General > Profile
  2. On this page, you may find several enterprise apps
  3. Choose the app corresponding to the app that iPhone doesn’t let you open
  4. Tap on the Trust button and another one to confirm

Now go back to your home screen and try to open the application. You shouldn’t have any trouble opening it since its profile has been signed personally by you, the device owner. This Untrusted Enterprise Developer prompt is another great way to hardening the security of your iPhone. This will allow you to trust non-App Store apps manually.

Next time if an emulator or app doesn’t want to open, you know the reason why.

For iOS 9.3.3 Users

Another recent situation with this error would be the new Pangu Jailbreak for iOS 9.3.3. You can now download the jailbreak utility and initialize it to install Cydia without a computer. However, to open the Pangu app, you will need to use this method above before opening it on your home screen. I hope this help and enjoy!

Profiles or Device Management is Missing on iOS 10?

People get panic when they unable to find either option in the Settings app. Without trusting the sideloaded app, users won’t be able to launch it. Their application would just crash upon opening.

Not to mention, my comment sections has been blowing up with people reporting that their Profiles or Device Management is missing from iOS 9 / 10.

I guess it’s time to add an extra section to this post on how to fix such issue.

How to Find Your Profiles and Device Management on iPhone

Sorry to break it to you but there is only one place where you can find the Device Management page, which I already mentioned above.

If you can’t find one of the two, that means the profile wasn’t installed in the first place.

Unlike other iOS settings, the device management on your iPhone will become visible only if you have a profile installed (in this case the app that you sideloaded using Xcode or Cydia Impactor). You might want to re-check to see if there was anything wrong that could occur during the installation process. I suggest checking out this post and this one as well.

Other suggestions:

  • Restart your iPhone
  • Re-install the app from your computer

Let me know how it works out for you.

Unable to Verify Your App?

That seems like a rising issue for many people. I’ll use the YouTube++ app as an example. It stopped working and prompted me to trust the application. I then get redirected to the Profile page with a new option called Verify. Now, this is a real headache because verifying an app in this instance doesn’t do anything.

If I were you, I would go with the sideloading option. The Verify screen often comes up when you install apps directly from Safari or third-party App Store. When you download the .IPA file and install it via Impactor you’re less likely to face this problem.

Another thing you can do is remove the problematic app and re-install it.

QuickTrust tweak

The “Trust” button on our iOS devices can be complicated to find for most users. A new jailbreak tweak named QuickTrust aim to solve this problem. It will simply add a Trust button directly to the popup the first time you see it. That way you don’t have to waste your time going into the Settings app.

All you have to do is tap Trust when prompted with the warning. You can install QuickTrust from the BigBoss repo for free.

The More You Know: What Are These Profiles For?

Profiles are small configuration files that gets installed on your iOS device to install an app on the home screen, which sometimes is fully web-based. A profile also gets installed when you sideload a modified .IPA file using Cydia Impactor. Not all iOS profiles are the same as some don’t provide us with any app icon, they just give us some additional functionality. Some profiles can even come from Apple.

Type of Profiles:

Apple Beta Updates: If you enroll in the Apple Developer program; which is $99 a year then a special profile will be sent to you. When this happen, you will start receiving beta versions of any new major firmware that the company plan on releasing to the public.

Tweaked apps: If you don’t like how certain apps like Facebook or Instagram works, you can install a modified version of them which usually enhance the experience or add more features to the official app. You will need to use your Apple ID and password to install them to your iPhone.

Emulators: Some apps like emulators certainly violate Apple’s term of service. However, they rarely do any harm, so you can still install them from the web. (I recommend checking out Delta)

  13. I’ve been using Delta Emulator for over a week without problems. Then tonight it gives me the “Unable to Verify” error and I cannot even get it to open the app. It won’t verify when I go into Device Management either. Any suggestions? I’d rather not lose all my game progress by deleting everything.

  14. Thank you for the reply. Once I reinstall the IPA, will this be a recurring problem? Is there any way to save or export the data now? If not, how can I save it when I get it running again, for future reference? I sure appreciate your help.

    • The problem will occur as soon as the certificate expires. I think there is an option inside Delta emulator that will allow you to save and export your game data.
