How to Browse iOS 11 File System Using iFile IPA Without Jailbreak

Now that you’ve updated to iOS 11, it’s safe to assume that your iPhone is no longer jailbroken. This means multiple tweaks that you used to utilize will no longer be there. One of my all-time favorite tweaks is called iFile. With it, you can add, edit, or even remove any files on your iOS device.

Some of the most use cases include:

We wrote a few tutorials on this blog that required users to make changes via their iFile app. You might recall changing the firmware version or modifying your filesystem without iFunbox or a computer. The new native Files app that Apple recently introduced in iOS 11 still can’t beat the good ol’ iFile tweak.

What if I tell you that there is a partial version of this tweak? How would you feel about managing your system files even when your iPhone or iPad isn’t jailbroken?

Don’t get too excited because the iFile IPA below will only provide some features of the original tweak and they’re insufficient in term of usability. Why? Because if a device is not jailbroken its owner won’t be given full root access.

But hey, at least there is something to do, right?

How to Download & Install iFile IPA on iOS 11

  1. You can download the latest version of iFile from here
  2. We will need Cydia Impactor to sideload it, so get it from this page
  3. Drag and drop the iFile ipa into the Impactor tool
  4. You will be asked to enter your Apple ID and password
  5. Wait for Cydia Impactor to install the app

When done, you will not be able to open the iFile application right away. One last step is required. That is going to the Settings app > General > Profiles & Device Management. Look for iFile with your Apple ID’s email and tap Trust.

Return to your home screen and the app should be ready to use.

Although the interface is similar to the original iFile tweak, it does not provide the same features. Like I mentioned earlier, since you’re sideloading an IPA file and your iPhone is not jailbroken, the app can not give you root control or full access to the file system.

With that being said, some folders and directories might not even show up at all. That means you don’t have a single entry to them.

Give it a try and let me know what you did with it.

  3. On my PC I had to go to the IPA’s Properties and select to unblock before it would install. I also had to generate an app specific password as I have 2F Authentication.
But I don’t see any files, just empty folders?

      • And, now, I don’t even see the empty folders just a pop up saying Registration failed and it freezes.

Well, it was interesting achieving the install…

        Thanks for giving your time.

  4. Will this allow me to remove the camera shutter click permanently from Japanese purchased iPhone – can I get access to the photoShutter.caf file? I’m in the UK and don’t need the sound here!

  5. Hey!

There is a new app called FilzaEscaped, it’s Filza, and it works just as well, but you don’t need jailbreak. Also, if you HAVE to use iFile, get the LiberiOS Jailbreak. It doesn’t have Cydia, but you get root access. There is no Substrate, so you can’t use tweaks.
