How to Install SNES emulator Provenance on your iOS 10 (No Jailbreak)

The other day I published an article on how to sideload iNDS, a Nintendo emulator, on your iOS 10 without jailbreak.

But it wasn’t smooth as we expected. You may have seen a lot of sites like iEmulator that hosts these gaming emulation apps recently added the tag “Revoked” next to their app.

This is understandable considering Apple has removed most of the certificates to install emulators like iNDS and GBA4iOS. Provenance emulator is no different in this case.

You can’t install it directly on your iPhone or iPad anymore, especially after you’ve updated to iOS 10. In this guide, I’ll show you an easier way of doing it and the method doesn’t require any certificate from a third-party site or a jailbroken device.

How to Sideload Provenance emulator on iOS 10

  1. Head over to FilePup to download the ProvenanceiOS.ipa
  2. Click here to get the latest version of Cydia Impactor
  3. After that, go to the Apple ID website and log in
  4. Under APP-SPECIFIC PASSWORDS, click on Generate Password…
  5. Switch back to your desktop > drag and drop the .ipa file to Cydia Impactor
  6. It will ask for your Apple ID and password. Enter your email and the generated password from Step 4

After that, Cydia Impactor will start sideloading the Provenance emulator onto your iOS 10 device.

You should see the app icon on your home screen already. But don’t open it yet. You will notice a developer error popup.

Go to the Settings app > General > Profiles. Tap on the Provenance app and Trust. Now, go back to the home screen, and you should be able to open the emulator.

A few things to remember

Provenance supports a variety of system including “Sega Genesis, Game Gear/Master System, Sega CD, SNES, NES, GB/GBC and GBA.”

Don’t forget to follow the tutorial above after every seven days since that’s the restriction Apple put on a free developer account. Besides that everything else should work fine.
