How To Delete Text Messages From your Apple Watch

Deleting text messages on your iPhone does not dictate the same task on your Apple Watch. In other words, you will need to delete these messages again on the watch to get rid of them altogether.

Why would you decide to do that is none of my business. But I’ll share this with you.

I don’t want to me reminded about an iMessage that I recently received, so I remove them from my iPhone. Unexpectedly, it continues to show up on my Apple Watch.

This is not an error; Apple just decided that you will have to perform a manual action on each device. It’s not the most convenient way, but at least there is a method to do so.

Steps to delete text messages on an Apple Watch

  1. Open your watch and access the Messages app from the Home screen
  2. Look for the message you want to remove and swipe it to the left
  3. Now you’ll be given options of Details or Trash
  4. Tap on Trash and confirm that you want to delete the text message

I know a lot of people who are used to using force touch to delete multiple messages at the same time. Unfortunately, that will only work with notifications from the Notification Centre.

There’s a Catch

I don’t know if you noticed but there’s a catch to the instructions above. The steps doesn’t provide a way to delete a specific text message from your Apple Watch.

What you just did earlier will eliminate the whole conversation rather than a target text message from a thread. It doesn’t have the feature like the iPhone where there is a “More” option, and then you choose which individual message you want to remove.

It doesn’t end there…

Even with the release of watchOS 3, the Messages app on your Apple Watch still lacks several important features.

For example:

  • You’re not allowed to delete all text messages at once
  • Doesn’t have support for deleting text messages synced across devices

What you can do right now is following the steps above. Will keep you updated if there is any further enhancement.

  2. It seems my Watch OR my iPhone receive calls or texts. Either 1 or the other not BOTH! I’ve missed/lost so many Calls & Text due to the Fact my Watch & iPhone don’t BOTH show my Call NOR my Text Messages. It’s ALWAYS 1 or the other? TYSM
