How to find the exact date an Instagram photo was posted

Instagram is known for many different things. It’s one of the most popular photo-sharing apps for iPhone and other mobile platforms, many people found their fame through sharing incredible photos and funny videos, and the app currently houses more than 600 million monthly active users.

The Facebook-owned company continues to make changes and develop new features for their Instagram app so that it continue to attract more users. One thing that should have been added into the app is a more detailed timestamp. In other words, showing an exact date of when a post was shared.

Currently, when you share a picture or video on Instagram, it will be dated in either one of the following formats: minutes, hours, days, weeks or months. To some Instagram users, this can be an annoying problem. Luckily, they no longer have to do any math or calculation when browsing this social media app.

If you have a jailbroken iPhone or iPad, there is a Cydia tweak called InstaRealDate that will display the exact date and time of all the photos on Instagram. The format will be shown as day, month, year and time, altogether as opposed to “weeks” set by default.

  1. Go to Cydia and wait for the BigBoss repo to update
  2. Using the Search option, type in InstaRealDate
  3. The tweak is free to download so tap on the Install button

To view the most accurate timestamp of an image, you will have to tap on the default time on the top right-hand corner, and then it will switch to a more in-depth one.

If you still think Instagram lacks more than just a feature, check out some of these new Cydia tweaks for the app here. You will be able to add functionality saving photos directly to Camera Roll, Zoom in, Re-gram Instagram posts without third-party apps, and more.

Instagram now showing Edit date

In the most recent update, Instagram has decided to enhance their timestamp. The general date and time are still there.

So, what’s new? Now you will be able to know when someone has changed or add something new to their caption. If the caption were updated, it would show as Edited.

Updating to the latest version does the trick

It seems like Instagram has heard enough of complaints about their poor photo and video timestamps, so they decided to fix this problem in one of their latest updates. Released back in March of 2016, any version after that will have this feature where it shows an exact date of when an Instagram photo or video was posted.

This is also a plus for those who don’t have a jailbroken device. Even if you have one, there is no need to use the InstaRealDate tweak because it’s now part of the core features.

  1. Just a warning: “InstaRealDate” makes Instagram crash when you have installed “Rocket for Instagram”. So at least for now, it’s either one or the other tweak you can have installed at a time.

  2. I am looking to see exact date AND time (preferably EST) for ALL Instagram media (recently posted, not just older ones, & “stories” too) via the Android app.. guess the search continues! (even better if a downloader could include that timestamp in the filename, ie [username-YEARDATE-TIME00.jpg] which is my ideal format)
